How is this incredible home still on the market? I have no idea, to tell you the truth, especially considering how hot Midcentury Moderns are, and this incredible location. Janmar is a fabulous, quiet enclave. We totally love this area, as we’ve said many times before. Big lots, great architecture, and a treasure trove of amazing homes that make this an incredible neighborhood inside 635.
This particular home — 7723 Northaven Road, just west of North Central Expressway — is just a lovely home. I am seriously swooning over this three-bedroom, two-bathroom Mid-Mod, and considering the huge lot (.35 acres with a great lawn) and 2,685 square feet, it’s a great value. This 1954 modern marvel is marketed by Virginia Cook agent Kyle Rovinsky for just $350,000.
I love the mix of flooring textures, too, which include hardwoods, parquet, stained concrete, and brick. Everything is open, with tons of windows and vaulted ceilings. Of course, check out that cool fireplace with that gorgeous brick work and the clerestory window above. The living room is definitely a high-impact space, and it flows well to the kitchen, which has been wonderfully preserved.
While it has great drive-up and landscaping in the front, the side yard is a blank slate, including the shaded area just outside the huge sunroom off of the living area. I’m already imagining the cool furniture the new buyer is going to put in this great home. Of course, I am totally wondering if the buyers will remodel the kitchen or keep it as it is. What would you do?
We just posted yesterday about what homebuyers are looking for according to the National Association of Realtors’ 2013 Homebuyer Survey. They want garages, fireplaces, backyards, and central air (which is a no-brainer for Texans!). Well, if you think you need to head north to the suburbs to get everything you want, just check out this great traditional in Walnut Gardens.
Situated north of Walnut Hill and east of Webb Chapel, this fantastic little enclave has tons of great homes that are being updated and loved, thanks to a great location and decent lot sizes. At 3409 Webb Garden Drive you get a completely updated home with vaulted ceilings, designer paint, gorgeous floors, and a two-car garage.
With four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and more than 2,400 square feet, you get all the size and amenities that the suburbs offer without having to drive all over creation to get to the office. This home is on a corner lot, too, which means more room to garden and spread out. It’s listed by Susan Melnick of Virginia Cook Realtors for $285,000.
The kitchen features granite counters and a travertine backsplash that complement the gorgeous cabinets. I love the cool pendant light fixtures above the breakfast bar. It’s a spacious kitchen, with a huge eat-in area next to a bay window. Of course, you’ll find stainless steel appliances and upgraded fixtures in the kitchen, too.
The master bedroom is a decent size at 16 x 14, but I’m more concerned about that door and where it leads. Is there a patio? Does it lead to the backyard? The listing info doesn’t tell you, and me, personally I would prefer to not have a door so darn close to my bed.
The master bath is completely updated with a granite vanity and stone-and-glass tile shower with a frameless glass surround. The fixures, which include a waterfall and directional shower, as well as double sinks, are all in oil-rubbed bronze. It’s pretty typical of what you see in updated masters today. Considering that there are two other full baths, I don’t think I will miss having a bathtub in the master.
The backyard, well, it’s perfect for a small playset for a couple of kids to run around. There’s a few areas for a flower bed if that’s more you’re speed, and I really like the brick half-wall that separates the rest of the yard from the tile patio.

Sometimes I run across a home that has me wondering if the builder was psychic or something. The house will have some cool finish or feature that I didn’t even know I wanted, but after ogling that listing, it becomes something I can’t live without.
That’s how I felt after checking out this brand new architect-designed custom home at 10300 Drop Tine Court in Fort Worth. This home is simply gorgeous, with all the hallmarks of an expertly designed custom home as well as some cool fixtures that give this recently built home the feel of a vintage classic.
Totaling 3,319 with four bedrooms and three baths, this house is listed with Virginia Cook Realtors agent Debra Barrett for a more-than-fair $450,000. It was finished in 2008 and has a slew of wonderful features that will maintain their value for much longer, including a shower/dog washing station built into the utility room. If you’re looking to go greener, this home has several eco-friendly attributes as well, including upgraded windows.
The kitchen is excellent for entertaining with a huge island separating the living area and providing eat-in seating. I love that the refrigerator and ovens are off to the side in a galley-type area, ensuring that guests don’t catch a gander at your collection of half-empty condiment bottles every time you reach in for a beverage. Another cool feature of the kitchen are the vintage-styled ceiling-mount light fixtures. This style was popular in the 1900s and 1920s, especially in Prairie-style and Victorian homes. With the right bulb, these fixtures will flood an area with warm light, perfect for any task or occasion. And unlike pendant fixtures, these will never get in the way of conversation.
As you move through the home to the bedrooms, another vintage-style feature starts to jump out at you — transoms above the doors and windows. This is a cool finish that went by the wayside for reasons I still don’t understand. Transoms are a great way to allow air to circulate through a home, too, without having to leave doors standing open all the time. Another huge plus for me is the dark hand-scraped hardwood floors throughout the first floor of the home. Beautiful.
I bet the photographer for this property was lamenting not being able to get a good angle in the master bath, because I’m sure it’s a space you want to show off in this home. Like much of the rest of the house, there is plenty of natural light coming in through the windows, one of which divides the vanities. It’s a five-piece bath with a huge walk-in closet attached — an enviable feature if there ever was one!
Now, I think this house is perfect for a family, and that’s mostly because of the large lot size that has zero obstructions. You get prairie views from your rear windows, of which there are absolutely tons. Honestly, this house is worth the money just for the full-light doors and incredible crank windows.

One of the reasons I’m not a huge fan of Tudors is that they are notoriously cramped and crowded on the inside, with wall, after wall, after wall separating rooms from one another. I love the way they look on the outside, though, with the high-pitched roofs and the brick exteriors, and there are tons of them in Kessler Highlands.
This one, though, feels very European on the inside with white on white walls and tile and tons of open space. It feels a lot brighter than most Tudors, too, thanks to the huge windows throughout the first floor of this 2,725-square-foot home.
Built in 1928 and fully renovated, 1217 N. Tyler St. is marketed by Susan Melnick of Virginia Cook Realtors for $475,000. Considering the location — the very hot North Oak Cliff area — the size and interior condition, I think that’s a pretty fair price for this home.
I think this house, while a great home for children, is an excellent house for entertaining. The bar, which has some really cool stools, would be a great place to belly up as the host is in the kitchen. The dining room is outstanding, too, as it faces an entire wall of windows.
The master suite is an interesting bird, mostly because it has two full baths. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a thing. I guess when the owner was renovating, he wanted to give one full bath a tub and another a shower? I like the idea, and the execution is pretty cool, but I’m not sure it’s a great selling point.
There are a total of four bedrooms and four baths in this home, which is pretty significant for a Tudor. Even more significant is the huge backyard with a gigantic deck. There’s also a fish pond with waterfall in the professionally landscaped, organic outdoor space.
