10741 Eden Roc Back

We know that there are a ton of midcentury modern homes in Sylvania Dells, an area of Lake Highlands where architecture is eye candy. We featured a unique listing from Ed Murchison just a short jog from today’s High-Caliber Home of the Week, and it was a midcentury modern with colored paneling and a unique floor plan, too.

However, 10741 Eden Roc surpasses all expectations with more that 4,000 square feet of wide open space on an acre lot. This home has been painstakingly preserved, with gorgeous expansive floors and the coolest open concept. You know, Realtors often put the words “MUST SEE!” in a listing description, and I usually just glaze over it. For this home, though, with its incredible windows, amazing back deck, and cool master suite, I really, REALLY want to see it!

All of these things — top-of-the-line design, amazing architecture, and perfectly preserved interiors — make this a high-caliber home. A home like this deserves a lender that’s going to look out for you and make sure that your dream becomes a reality. That’s what Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans does with her clients. She’s a mortgage professional that takes the time to make sure that there are no financing hiccups at closing. Find out what Lisa Peters can do for you today.

8676 Langdale AHidden in East Lake Highlands near Northwest Highway and Plano Road is one of the largest collections of modern houses in Dallas, and some are still affordable, like the listing at 8676 Langdale Circle.

Designed by architect Jack R. Yardley and built in 1976, this looker is listed by Brandon Stewart with David Griffin & Company for $360,000.

Located on a corner lot in the secluded enclave of Mediterranean Gardens, this house is a 2-2 with 1,795 square feet, designed by Yardley for his then mother-in-law while he lived next door. (more…)

10830 Hayfield Front

Photos: Shoot2Sell

Remember yesterday’s post with a little blurb by Wilson Fuqua? The renowned architect talked about how some homes just need the deft, artful touch of an architect to be transformed from ugly ducklings into sleek swans. I like to think that this home at 10830 Hayfield is a stunning example of this idea. Built in 1981, this soft contemporary likely had a muted neutral palette and an unhealthy amount of carpet everywhere.

Since then, this listing from Brandon Stewart has been updated to sleek, chic modern perfection.

According to the Lake Highlands Advocate, two pools in the vicinity of 11400 block of Park Central and the 11900 block of Woodbridge have tested positive for West Nile Virus. Since then, Dallas officials have sprayed pesticides in Lake Highlands from Monday to Wednesday in hopes to curb the population of Culex mosquitoes, the only species of the blood-sucking vermin to carry the disease.

As the article notes, we’re actually showing a lot of improvement on the West Nile Virus front, because no one has died during this year’s peak mosquito season. Two people died from the virus last year, and 20 people died in 2012.

Of course, we here at CandysDirt seem to attract mosquitoes more than most  — it must be our sweet personalities! — so we diligently follow the five Ds :

  • DRAIN—all areas of standing water including changing water in wading pools, birdbaths, low pavement areas and gutters;
  • DEET—Use bug spray and protect clothing with repellents containing permethrin or DEET — I have also invented DEET-covered pantyhose!
  • DRESS—Dress in light- colored clothing with long sleeves and wear long pants even though it’s hot
  • DUSK/DAWN—Limit outdoor exposure at dusk and dawn when they bite the most
  • DOORS—Keep door and window screens in good repair. This is no time to let in unscreened “fresh air”

9229 Ferndale Front

Cute and sweet from the curb, this 1958 traditional ranch packs quite a punch once you walk inside. Truly, this is one of those homes where you take notes on the remodeled spaces, as the sellers have really made the most of every square inch of this beautiful Lake Ridge Estates house.

Not only that, but it’s on one of the best streets in the neighborhood — Ferndale Road — and is inside Richardson ISD. Jump for more on this adorable home from Nathan Grace agent Amy Timmerman of PickaPerch.com.

Jane and Daniel Cheek

I got to know Jane Cheek and her cute little boy, Abe, when she was teaching a toddler art class in East Dallas a little over a year ago. This talented stay-at-home-mom, a former art teacher, came up with the cutest ideas for crafts for our little buggers. When she and her husband, Daniel, bought a home up in Royal Highlands Village, I adored watching her transform their three-bedroom semi-detached into a gorgeous property. She managed to do it just months after having her second little boy, Ike, too.

Now with two boys and another bun in the oven, Jane and Daniel Cheek are moving back to their hometown of Raleigh, N.C. Our loss was some other homebuyer’s gain, as their adorable home was snapped up in a matter of days, all due to the brilliant marketing of Keller Williams Elite agent Vicki White.

Kevin Kiosk F

I was on my way to drop my son off at preschool when all the sudden I saw Kevin Caskey’s face at Mockingbird and Abrams. His kiosk ad, a slick, minimalist magazine cover is one of several Dallas City Center’s top agents are rolling out. After seeing the kiosk ad, it reminded me that I needed to check in with him about what listings DCC has in the wings.

As it turns out, I did exactly what Caskey’s ad was supposed to make me do.

“When you’re driving by, it has to capture your attention. What we want to do is use the kiosk ads as a way of, not necessarily building a brand, but to stay top-of-mind,” Caskey said.

When I called Caskey today we had a great chat about advertising, their fabulous new agents, and this L-Streets charmer at 10030 Lanshire that is as rare as a unicorn these days.

“It’s been a hot property because there’s nothing in this price range in Lake Highlands,” Caskey said. “Under $300,000 is so hard to find in this area. It’s unheard of!”
