Wednesday WTF: Cher This With Your Friends, Sonny

Wednesday WTF

Our Wednesday WTF this week needs lots of Chers.

Guys. I have poked around the real estate Internet and have seen things that can’t be unseen, all in a bid to bring you the best Wednesday WTF that ever WTF’d.

But this week, the WTF came to us, after a reader passed along this doozy in Dallas — Kessler Park, to be exact.

In fact, one anonymous Dallas gay A-lister said, “It’s proof that not all gays have good taste.”

Executive Editor Jo England and I stared at it for a while.

For Contentious Canterbury Court Steps, Nothing’s Set in Stone

An old brochure for Kessler Park shows the beautiful stone stairways that can be found within the neighborhood.

An old brochure for Kessler Park shows the beautiful stone stairways that can be found within the neighborhood.

Rachel Stone at the Oak Cliff Advocate has an update on an unexpectedly contentious issue that has formed battle lines among Kessler Park residents: The steps between Canterbury Court and Edgefield Avenue.

The stone walkway, which was installed by the original developers of Kessler Park, North Texas Trust Co., was part of a system of small pocket parks that were meant to attract wealthy families to the neighborhood. However, the steps have fallen into disrepair, and until recently, it wasn’t exactly clear who owned the steps or was responsible for their maintenance.

Tuesday Two Hundred: Beckley Club Reno with Basement is Stunner in N. Oak Cliff

1511 Seevers D

It’s not news that real estate in North Oak Cliff is hot, hot, hot, especially Kessler Park, Bishop Arts, and Winnetka Heights.

But there’s an up-and-coming neighborhood east of Interstate 35E and a half mile south of the Dallas Zoo that is darling and much less publicized: Beckley Club Estates. This community of about 150 houses, described as “a quiet haven of winding, tree-shaded streets, one-lane bridges, and gently sloping hills” is home to the newly listed property at 1511 Seevers Avenue.

This 2-2 Craftsman-traditional hybrid was built in 1935 and renovated this year by owner and listing agent Greg Hutchinson at Ebby Halliday Realtors. The main house is 1,259 square feet, with a 400-square-foot finished basement, and 250-square-foot guesthouse with full bath and kitchenette. Its list price is $260,000. (more…)

Kessler Woods Modern Has Chic Vibe, Beautiful Floors, Outdoors Galore

2223 Kessler Woods Ct Front

This sleek home in Kessler Park is a stunning example of a home that is designed to maximize the outdoor spaces both within the home and outside its walls. It doesn’t hurt that it’s inside an amazing gated community in one of Oak Cliff’s most posh neighborhoods.

Truly though, this listing at 2223 Kessler Woods Court from David Griffin, is a fantastic example of a more modern take on Texas regionalist architecture, incorporating a stark, yet rustic exterior by pairing bright white stucco, clean lines, and a standing seam roof in a classic shape.

Kessler Park Home Featured on Motley Fool, With Price 3% Higher Than Last Year

2142 Kessler Parkway Front

So, what can you get for a cool million in Dallas? The Motley Fool asked that question last week, and came up with 2142 Kessler Parkway, a luxurious North Oak Cliff house we previously featured as our Inwood Mortgage Home of the Week. When we featured this three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home last July, it was on the market for $967,000. Today it’s listed, as the Motley Fool column writes, at $998,000. The more recent listing with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Kate Mote, is 3 percent higher than the July 2013 listing price.

The house is spacious, comes with a pool, and is genuinely very, very nice. But with an asking price of $998,000, you don’t get quite the same bang for your buck as you would in other cities, like Miami or Phoenix.
