When you think of hip, fun destinations to live, work, and play in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the city of Lewisville is not usually at the top of the list.

But city leaders in this northern suburb of almost 100,000 residents are changing that as redevelopment moves into full swing in the Old Town area. New houses, townhomes, restaurants, and retail shops are all in the works as developers and entrepreneurs take note of the changing atmosphere.

“Everybody has been hyper-focused on Collin County, but these changes in Lewisville will give people another option,” said David Maez, Broker and Co-Owner at VIVO Realty, which represents the developer Belleville Village, the builders of Uptown Village Lewisville townhomes near East Main Street and East Mill Street in Old Town. “It’s close to Lewisville Lake, close to the airport, close to I-35, which makes it easy to get to Dallas. These changes will make that area more appealing for buyers, especially younger professionals.”  (more…)

2811 Timber Crest Front

You know what’s great about Highland Village? It’s not the fact that it’s the safest community in North Texas, or that it’s perennially at the top of “best places to live” lists. What’s great about Highland Village is that it’s like having a home and a vacation home all in one.

This house in particular — 2811 Timber Crest — is not only great because it’s in Highland Village but because it’s also priced exceptionally well at $545,000. It’s marketed by exceptional Ebby agent Heidi Loewinsohn, who knows a thing or two about Highland Village.

This house, which is in the Highland Shores community, has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a two-bed, two-and-a-half bath guest house. The interiors are kind of blah, with lots of builder-grade finishes. Maybe that was intentional as to not detract from the views outside.

Of course, I fell in love with the hot tub on the deck. It screams “vacation home!” doesn’t it? And who doesn’t love a home that functions as a getaway, too?

Also outstanding is the outdoor kitchen, which, honestly, I would love to cook in every day. There’s everything out there!

Yes, today is the last day of summer, but that doesn’t mean the hot weather is any closer to giving way to autumn temperatures. It’s time to muse on the best thing to have during a blistering Texas summer: a backyard swimming pool.

With the help of Ebby’s own Cody Baker, I present my personal top five swimming pools on the market today:

1. 811 N. Shore Drive, Highland Village

The pool at 811 N Shore Drive in Highland Village tops my list of best pools on the market today.

This pool is amazing. It has a lazy river without being too huge or imposing, and it has a great view of the lake, too. Sure, it doesn’t have a Wet N’ Wild feel, but this pool definitely feels like a great place to throw an end-of-summer bash.

2. 300 W. Bethel Road, Coppell

The pool at 300 W. Bethel Road feels placid and relaxing.

The huge waterfall just outside the loggia, combined with the fountain inside the spa makes this pool a relaxing, resort-like escape!

3. 905 Tranquility Drive, Fairview

The address says it all: 905 Tranquility Drive was made for peaceful time outdoors.

Just look at how the sunset on the facade of the house contrasts with the dark cerulean waters. If that isn’t peaceful enough, the trickling noise of the waterfall and fountains will be!

4.  6 Lochleven, Richardson

The pool at 6 Lochleven is all about drama with two fire pits and four fountains.

The quatrefoil shape of the pool at 6 Lochleven is totally regal, but it’s the two fire pits and the fountains that bring all of the drama. Combined with the Monticello-looking home, this Richardson house is fit for a queen.

5. 6812 Hunters Glen, University Park

Sleek, linear, and modern, the pool at 6812 Hunters Glen fits seamlessly with the home.

For something completely different, we round out our list with 6812 Hunters Glen in University Park. This pool is all about right angles and concrete, which is what you’ll find inside the home, too.

Want to see how long it would take you to get downtown from that home you’ve been eyeing? Trulia has an app for that.

Perhaps you’ve heard that D Magazine has released a new list that ranks North Texas suburbs, with Parker and Highland Village besting both Highland Park and University Park for the top two spots?

That’s all well and good, but let’s say you take this information, sell your Lake Highlands home for top dollar, and move out to Parker or Highland Village — what’s that commute going to be like?

Just ask Trulia, which just released a new app that can tell you how long you’ll be trapped on North Central Expressway or Interstate 35 should you choose to head for the ‘burbs.

Here’s the bummer, for those folks who were thinking about high tailing it to Parker or Highland Village — your commute doesn’t compute. Trulia’s heat map doesn’t measure commutes that would take longer than an hour.

To me, that’s kind of crazy, because I know there are folks out there who buy beautiful homes in areas such as Emerald Sound in Oak Point who still commute.
