Old Lake Highlands Home Made of Shipping Containers Featured in ArchDaily

I think I’ve heard just about everything there is to hear about PV14, the modern home constructed of 14 shipping containers located on Peavy Road in Old Lake Highlands. The home, which has outstanding panoramic views of White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas, including Boy Scout Hill, has been praised and has raised several eyebrows as neighbors watched the home go vertical.

It’s been called both trendy and tremendous, but while there was some negative feedback from some of the homeowners, many of whom felt the structure was too tall for a neighborhood full of single-story 1950s traditionals, after the AIA Dallas Tour of Homes the collective gasp of excitement over the home was well heard.

High Caliber Home of the Week: Marvelous Midcentury Modern in Lake Highlands

10741 Eden Roc Back

We know that there are a ton of midcentury modern homes in Sylvania Dells, an area of Lake Highlands where architecture is eye candy. We featured a unique listing from Ed Murchison just a short jog from today’s High-Caliber Home of the Week, and it was a midcentury modern with colored paneling and a unique floor plan, too.

However, 10741 Eden Roc surpasses all expectations with more that 4,000 square feet of wide open space on an acre lot. This home has been painstakingly preserved, with gorgeous expansive floors and the coolest open concept. You know, Realtors often put the words “MUST SEE!” in a listing description, and I usually just glaze over it. For this home, though, with its incredible windows, amazing back deck, and cool master suite, I really, REALLY want to see it!

All of these things — top-of-the-line design, amazing architecture, and perfectly preserved interiors — make this a high-caliber home. A home like this deserves a lender that’s going to look out for you and make sure that your dream becomes a reality. That’s what Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans does with her clients. She’s a mortgage professional that takes the time to make sure that there are no financing hiccups at closing. Find out what Lisa Peters can do for you today.

Another exquisite project recently completed by Bauhaus Custom Homes. (Photo: Bauhaus Custom Homes)

German native and President of Bauhaus Custom Homes, Marc Kleinmann, moved to the United States in 1996. His father was a real estate developer so the industry has been in his blood for quite a while.

Kleinmann took a hiatus from the housing/real estate industry, working in advertising for the first few years after immigrating to the US. He slowly returned by flipping a few houses at a time and eventually building spec houses. In 2007, during the economic downturn, he started Bauhaus Custom Homes.

“Downturns are good for any industry. It forces people to rethink and retool how they do things; they learn to do them more efficiently,” says Kleinmann. “Building a house is a team sport,” he continues. Bauhaus started out small but as the economy improved, it has taken on more projects and more staff to collaborate on home building projects from start to finish.

4337 Travis Street

What an exceptional opportunity to live in one of these gorgeous modern townhomes designed by Lionel Morrison. The architect, which has a fondness for minimalistic modern design that pairs metal and natural materials seamlessly, has designed amazing Dallas homes and landmarks, including this light and bright mansion on Northaven Road, One Arts Plaza, and many more.

We’ve featured one of these incredible Travis Street townhomes before as a Monday Morning Millionaire, and today’s Lease of the Week is just as fabulous as that home, only it doesn’t have a rooftop deck. Still, it’s a beautiful home in an amazing location with everything your modern-loving heart desires. Located at 4337 Travis Street, you can rent this gorgeous concrete, glass, and steel beauty marketed by Rogers Healy himself for $9,000 a month.

Warm Mist Front

The moment I saw a photo of this home in Brandon Stewart’s MOD 214 newsletter, I knew we had to feature it. I loved it’s shape — there’s something about the pitch of the roof with those 1970s contemporaries that throws you off just enough to make you look twice.

What I didn’t realize was that the interiors were just as amazing, and that the sellers of this gorgeous home in Prestonwood Creek had invested a lot of time and money in updating this home to please your senses and your wallet. And c’mon, guys! Who can resist having an address like 5905 Warm Mist Lane?!

Thursday Three Hundred: Midcentury Modern in Merriman Park Has Fabulous Details

7024-whitehill-st-dallas-tx-MLS-1

Ed Murchison has established himself as the go-to Dallas Realtor for midcentury modern properties. He’s marketed and sold some amazing homes that are not only gorgeous, but some are like walking on a Mad Men set — completely preserved in their shag carpet and glitter Formica splendor.

If you’ve wanted to own a midcentury modern home, but have missed all your chances, then you might be able to snatch up this amazing home in East Dallas’ Merriman Park — a fantastic family neighborhood. This home was just featured on Retro Renovation as one of their “time capsules,” and we can see why. Many original details of this lovely home have been preserved, but it’s not without some modern touches.

2604 Andrea Front

I almost wept when I saw this listing today. It’s so sad to see beautiful homes fall by the wayside, and this home was once an incredible one, a Cliff May-designed Midcentury Modern ranch.

Today it is a haphazard shell of a house, dirty and dusty, and mostly neglected. But therein lies the opportunity — you can own a Cliff May home for just $129,900.

That’s a deal, folks, but this home needs a lot of work. That’s actually a brutal understatement for this Casa View Oaks home at 2604 Andrea. It’s listed by RE/MAX About Dallas agent Matt Nevitt, who describes the property thusly:

This Cliff May, Mid-Century Modern Ranch, needs to be restored to its former glory! Lots of natural light in this 3 bedroom 2 full bath home. Floor to ceiling windows in the living area with a brick fireplace. Hardwood floors in the living, dining and bedrooms. Has a one car garage but could be converted back to a 2 car.

Are you up to the challenge? I think that Jenni Stolarski should buy this home and make it one of her masterpieces! This could be a cool home for anyone, even a family. It’s close to the recently renovated Harry Stone Recreation Center in an area that is going through a significant amount of gentrification. This is a serious investment home!

Built in 1955, this home does have a lot of original details, including clerestory windows, hardwoods, and a brick fireplace.  It’s not currently on the registry of Cliff May-designed homes, but its nearby neighbor, 2651 Andrea, is. In fact, this street is a hidden gem of California ranch-style homes. This house is being sold as an estate, so it’s an as-is transaction.

Someone snatch this amazing project up fast and keep us posted on your progress!
