Thirty years! Can you believe it? The Colleyville Woman’s Club has been putting on its Holiday Home Tour for 30 years now, and we’re just amazed at its longevity! The tour, which is slated for Sunday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature five gorgeous homes in Colleyville with halls that are decked for the season, including the gorgeous Heritage Hill Queen Anne Victorian mansion designed by American architect George Franklin Barber. This home was built for less than $2,500 in 1895, from “the finest materials.” Today it is an incredible legacy to the community, thanks to homeowner Joan Vandergriff, who had its 110 pier foundation relocated from Bonham, Texas, to Colleyville, and nary a window was damaged!

And back for its second year is Santa’s Sweet Stop at Taylor Renovations, which will help equip tour-goers for holiday cooking and decorating. Whole Foods has sponsored this stop, so look for cooking demonstrations and sweets for guests! You can visit with Santa Claus or buy a poinsettia for $10 each.

If you want to see these five beautiful abodes, you can purchase your ticket for $20 ahead of the tour at locations listed on the Colleyville Woman’s Club website. Don’t miss this fabulous opportunity!

Update 11/22: The ABPA home tour is December 5, 2014.

The Armstrong Bradfield Preschool Association puts on one of the best holiday home tours, and this year’s stroll through Highland Park will be a tremendous one! The Homes for the Holidays Home Tour is in just two weeks, and you can get your tickets for the Friday, Dec. 5 fundraiser for this active early childhood PTA right here. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the tour, which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Of course, you have to go to this year’s tour if you missed out on last year’s thanks to the insane ice storm that shut down North Texas. Don’t miss out!

In the lead-up to the home tour, we’re chatting with a few of the homeowners who have graciously opened their doors to all the folks who want to ogle and gawk at their beautiful abodes for a good cause. Today we have Rachel Stephens on the blog, whose home on McFarlin was teased by Candy just a short while ago. Rachel, who has always had a passion for design, enlightens us on what to look for when you tour her gorgeous traditional. Jump for more!

Of course we “ooh” and “ahh” over new homes and the latest design features, but a lot can be said for homes that stand the test of time. Some estates become standard-bearers for architects and designers, evoking a time and place like no other home can.

These are exactly the types of properties that are showcased in Saturday’s “Grounds For Preservation” home tour hosted by Preservation Dallas. This home tour is an extraordinary opportunity  to see the sprawling estates of Dallas designed by well-known architects.

“Our tour this year highlights iconic historic houses in Dallas, and this tour is unique because it highlights estates and their grounds,” said Donovan Westover of Preservation Dallas.

AIA Dallas Tour of Homes Features Modern Marvels From Local Architects

PV14 1

It seems like every year AIA Dallas puts on its fall home tour, they up the ante of style and substance. This year’s AIA Dallas Tour of Homes, held Saturday and Sunday Nov. 1-2, is no different.

The tour, which is self-guided and open to the public, will feature the outstanding work of AIA Dallas architects. The tour will feature the recently completed shipping container home from Michael Gooden Design, PV14. The home, named for its address on Peavy Road and for the number of shipping containers the home is constructed with, has sweeping views of White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas. The other eight homes, which also include a Howard Meyer renovation, are no slouches, either.

A Swiss Avenue Home Tour Mother’s Day

Swiss AveEdit

by Cassie Evans – guest blogger and Candy’s daughter.

Instead of a heavy brunch doting on her, Mom (aka Dallas Dirt Queen, Candace Evans) and I spent Mother’s Day afternoon doing what we do best: judging looking at houses! We loved every minute of the Swiss Avenue Historic District’s Mother’s Day Home Tour.

There were three major home tours this weekend, including the Turtle Creek Home Tour, the Hollywood Heights Home Tour, and the White Rock Home Tour. Each tour had a different flavor that all architecture and design lovers will enjoy. If you loved modern homes, then White Rock was for you. Love luxury highrises? You had to hit up the Turtle Creek Home Tour. Need an injection of storybook Tudors and traditionals? Nowhere better than Hollywood Heights last weekend.

So, which one did you go to? What house really struck your fancy? And did you make any memories? Comment below!

This year’s White Rock Home Tour is going to feature some of the most incredible homes in East Dallas, and you don’t want to miss out. We adore this home tour, which runs Saturday and Sunday (April 26 and 27) and supports programming at Hexter Elementary.

“This is our 9th year and we have some fabulous homes on the tour this year,” said Andrea Glover, this year’s home tour chair. We couldn’t agree more! This tour features phenomenal feats of modern architecture you’re sure to go ga-ga over!

Amy Marcuis, owner of the Wildgrove home, was kind enough to give us a little preview of what she’s been doing to prepare for this year’s tour. Read on for more info, and find out how you can score tickets to this weekend’s tour!
