‘Dallas Modern’ Chronicles The 20 Most Stunning Modern Homes in Big D

Dallas Modern Cover

Still looking for the perfect gift for your favorite Realtor, stager, photographer, architect, or house porn enthusiast? Dallas Architecture Forum has come out with just the thing: a monograph (a fancy word for coffee table book) about Dallas modern architecture. “Dallas Modern” features 20 of the most outstanding (you guessed it) modern homes in Dallas, with each property getting its very own chapter.

The book includes detailed photographs of the interiors and exteriors of the homes, as well as essays and floorplans. The 11-by-11, 215-page, glossy hardback book comes with a colorful dust jacket and will set you back $74.14 with tax and shipping.

That’s a paltry sum, we think, to have the opportunity to gaze at these beauties whenever you want. Interested? Order here.

Of course we “ooh” and “ahh” over new homes and the latest design features, but a lot can be said for homes that stand the test of time. Some estates become standard-bearers for architects and designers, evoking a time and place like no other home can.

These are exactly the types of properties that are showcased in Saturday’s “Grounds For Preservation” home tour hosted by Preservation Dallas. This home tour is an extraordinary opportunity  to see the sprawling estates of Dallas designed by well-known architects.

“Our tour this year highlights iconic historic houses in Dallas, and this tour is unique because it highlights estates and their grounds,” said Donovan Westover of Preservation Dallas.

10722 Royal Springs Back

Sometimes I am just so stinking amazed at the cool listings Carrie Hill and Jacy Olson snag. They are working their way up to Brandon Stewart and Scott Carlson territory, I swear. Just goes to show how amazing these agents are!

This midcentury modern in Royal Springs Estates is just epic, too. It has to be the equivalent of a unicorn in Dallas real estate circles, because not only is it an amazing example of midcentury modern architecture, but it has been lovingly remodeled in a way that updates the home without destroying the character that makes these types of houses so highly sought after.

With more than two thirds of homeowners planning home renovations in the next 6 months, it’s no wonder that contractors and builders are busier than a Realtor’s phone come springtime.

But why are more homeowners planning to renovate? According to a survey from Realtor.com and Move Inc., besides improving a home’s function and aesthetic (32 percent) and preparing a home for the market (22 percent), homeowners also planned to take a sledgehammer to a recently purchased home that needs some work (19 percent) as well as make key renovations to increase a home’s value and build equity (11 percent).
