Former first lady Laura Bush’s childhood home at 2500 Humble Drive in Midland was just listed for $410,000 by Caroline Earles of Trudy Thomason Realty, boasting original design attributes from when Bush lived there from 1961 to 1963.
Earles told Realtor.com, “Most of the properties [in Midland] are three-bedroom, two-bath,” adding the true perk is that the four owners since Bush lived there “have maintained the integrity of Laura’s bedroom and bath.” This includes the original built-ins in her bedroom and pink tile in the bath. “It adds historical value,” says Earle.
Bush expressed fond memories of Midland in her 2010 Memoir “Spoken From the Heart” calling it “a place of ice cream sundaes … and Saturday morning pony rides.”
Her father, who worked as a real estate developer and homebuilder, commissioned the home for the family in the 1960s where Bush lived as a teenager. According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram the property is currently listed on the higher end compared to Midland’s median list price of $215,000.
In addition to offering buyers a piece of Bush nostalgia, the 2,547-square-foot ranch features several modern upgrades, including granite counters, an island in the kitchen, plus an open-concept layout with wood beams and fireplace in the living room.
A rare-for-the-area carport, and one-bedroom guest house (which the current owner rented out for $900 a month) are an added bonus.
